Engineering Technical Report

Directions: You and a partner will each design, document and produce a part for assembly. Each part must contain a hole and a mating part that matches with the other. In other words, they must fit together. Each part must be different, they cannot be mirror images of each other. You must each create a sketch of your part and a sketch of the two parts together. You must create a scaled multi-view drawing of the part; which includes dimensions. You will each produce your part and assemble the two parts. You will analyze the parts.

Activity #2

Once the above items are completed, you (on you own) will complete the following:

1. Analyze your piece

a. Refer to your drawings (Part 2D in the attachments)

i. Is your piece cut to the correct size – make notes where your piece is not the correct size? There is a shortage in the Hight of my part, Also the hole is wider than the hole in the drawing.

b. Refer to the geometry of your piece

i. Is the geometry of your piece going to cause problems with the assembly? No

Once the above items are completed, you (on you own) will complete the following:

1. Analyze your partner’s piece (Part 1D in the attachments)

a. Refer to your drawings

i. Is your partner’s piece cut to the correct size – make notes where your piece is not the correct size? Yes

b. Refer to the geometry of your partner’s piece

i. Is the geometry of your partner’s piece going to cause problems with the assembly? No.

Build the report on answering the questions in the rubric below.

Procedure: Explain what you did.

a. A written explanation of the design process and reasoning for choosing the design. Remember you chose this design as a group.

b. The written procedure of how you built your part.

i. Sketch of the final design with dimensions and drawings of all parts used. Drawings used to describe the variation from your design to the production should be included along with the two other parts you analyzed.

Analysis: Analyze what happened.

a. Why did you have the results that you had? What were the design flaws, etc.? Look at your notes from your sketches.

b. What would you do differently next time? Think about layout of your piece, how you cut your piece, did the design of the piece make it conducive to build out of Styrofoam?

c. IF you constructed a second part…what changes would you make and why? What would be the goal of the redesign?

i. What other designs did you consider and why did your group choose this design?
