In Chapter 2, – Delinquency and Drift – Delinquency and Drift Revisited: The Criminology of David Matza and Beyond, the author of this chapter, Dr. Travis Pratt argued the following : “Why do some delinquents make the choice to exercise agency and drift out of delinquency while other (albeit a small group) make the choice to continue a life of crime well into adulthood?” (p.22) And, ” Why do such choices to be an agent on their point in the life course (emerging adulthood) and not sooner or later?” (p.22) Matza never expanded on these points. Now, I am going to ask you to dissect Chapter 2 in hope of finding Matza clues to the question (s) posed AND propel yourself outside of our two books and dig a bit deeper into the delinquency literature and present your idea. Remember, ground your response in Matza and where Matza is deficient in his explanation, seek the work of other delinquent theorists.
